and they keep coming in...

Jansen,

Sorry I don't usually message strangers out of the blue- but I read a friend's twitter which featured your post "Letter to a Christian Girlfriend."

Let me preface by saying that you are brave for sharing your thoughts and I applaud you. I reached exactly those conclusions in my life. Mind you, I was indoctrinated at Sunday School as a kid & attended Bible Study as a teen and was even a Christian Fellowship President (ahh.. the irony) at school. However, I did question the teachings and decided that it wasn't for me.

Suffice to say you obviously have support amongst your friends, and this message from me says that you have support amongst strangers. Take care!

PS: I see that you boulder. Nice v10s btw. too bad they dont make 'em anymore.

  1. I came from your facebook account after someone showed me your letter - and I just want to tell you to keep your head up, man. I'm a fellow vocal atheist from Malaysia (possibly the only one in my college) and I too have a Christian girlfriend - except, I'm slightly more fortunate than you in the sense that she's not a Bible literalist and is perfectly capable in seeing human hands in the book. Keep up the good fight, Janse. Reason will prevail!

  4. Not as frequently as I like to or should.

More young atheists in our region should be as outspoken as the religious youths - it lets people know we exist and we're basically decent folks.

Your latest post on the Nepalese guests are quite an interesting read. Looking forward to more original writings from you.

  5. Hi Jansen,

I will remain anonymous. I came across your FB note few days ago. I may not understand your situation but I could feel that you are just out of your Anger that you post this on FB. To tell your feeling... to express it out! I think this is good. When I began that parts - where there are Bible Verses in it, I think you got it the wrong way. I'm sorry to say this but it hurts me when you twist the facts without studying in depth about the Bible or come to know about Him.

Many atheists and non-believers always trying to find Truth even they quote and use the Bible verses but they do not understand the real meaning. That's why in their minds, they think they can use evidence to fight the Truth in the Bible, but Christians believe in something that we cannot see or touch at all, that's what do we called FAITH!

I was born in a Christian family but that doesn't make me a Christian. But I CHOSE to become one. Christianity is not a religion but a belief. In my heart, I feel His presence. You may not know what am I talking about.

I do respect your post but quoting one verse and interprets into your own understanding but not complete truth (the verses always link in New and Old Testaments) is making other ppl confuse. I hope you understand where am I standing at. I do respect other religions.

To my surprise, you are actually looking for the real Truth. I'm sorry to know that what happened btwn you and your ex. I know you are good at sourcing and finding information. I guess you are still looking for an answer, especially in the Bible. But bare in mind, don't let your emotional run wild or in other words - controlling you.

I don't want to debate or say much, I know if I con't to type and tell you, the discussion (worse still will turn into an argument) is not going to end. It happens because we don't believe each other's faith. I happened to come to experience this kind of situation.

That's why I want to quote you a link and book, for your findings and curiousity that you are looking for. I think there are some science facts you might need to know as well.
